The young actor, who is Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s son, is happy with his profession and the way his acting career is shaping up.

His second film ‘Ustad Hotel’ will be completed in a week’s time, soon after he will move on to the next project.

“I am excited about ‘Varsham’, my third film. The film’s shooting will begin shortly. It’s a love story, which will be shot here. The director is a new face, Kannan, and the search for the female lead is going on. Kannan has co-written,” said Salman.

He will also do director Martin Prakkat’s film.

“All in all, things are fine and I am enjoying my new found profession. A few other proposals are also in the pipeline, including a film by one of the country’s leading director,” said Salman, a graduate from the U.S, who before turning a professional actor, he was looking after his father’s money matters.

When asked about his father’s latest film, ‘Kobra’, which hits the theatres on Friday, Salman said that it will be a fun film.

“Yes, of late, a few of his films did not do the expected business, but with his new release, things are going to change. I saw the film last night and it looks good and an entertainer,” said Salman, and added that his father is right now in Qatar.

What about a probable role alongside his father?

The 25-year-old laughs saying, “I am in no hurry.”

The actor married architect A. Sufia last December.

The 50-year-old director has introduced Indo-Brazilian beauty Nathalia Kaur as item girl in the song, where she is seen shaking her leg with actors Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati.

And Varma has confirmed speculations that ‘Dan Dan’ is inspired by ‘Aasai Nooruvagai’, the track composed by Ilayaraja and picturised on the Tamil superstar.

“To answer all speculations yes Nathalia Kaur dan dan song has been inspired from Rajnikanth’s song aasai nooruvagai from his film ‘Adutha Varisu’.

“The inspiration rights have been taken that Rajnikanth song has been one of my all time favourites and Nathalia Kaur song is a tribute to it,” Varma posted on Twitter.

Choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, the music is by composer duo Dharam-Sandeep of ‘Rakta Charitra’ fame.

“Dharam Sandeep the music directors on my insistence took that 30 second line from the Rajnikanth song but rest of song and track is their original,” he added.

“It is not just an action entertainer as claimed by the media. ‘Thaandavam’ will be a mix of emotions such as anger, love, comedy, pain and compassion. Around 50 per cent of shooting is over,” he says.

With Vikram and popular Tollywood actor Jagapathi Babu playing the lead roles, the bilingual has Anushka Shetty and Amy Jackson as heroines. Music is by G V Prakash Kumar, the lucky mascot of Vijay.

“After ‘Poi Solla Porom’ and ‘Deivathirumagal’, I am, for the third time working for UTV Motion Pictures. Vikram has given his best to ‘Thaandavam’ and he has reduced 20 kilos of his weight. The film will entertain everyone,” he concludes.

And as the big day draws closer, Trisha says plans are on to couple her birthday celebrations with a summer vacation in Thailand with friends.

“But nothing has been confirmed yet,” Trisha says and adds, “As of now, we are looking at a resort in Thailand and most probably it will be our summer destination this year. Things will become clear in a few days.”

On a professional front, Trisha currently plays the female lead in two Tamil films and one Telugu movie. “Both my movies in Kollywood- ‘Samaran’ with Vishal and ‘Endrendrum Punnagai’ with Jiiva- will take me more close to the audience,” she says.

On her Telugu flick, the actress says, “‘Dammu’ with NTR Junior is a high voltage commercial entertainer. However, I have got an interesting role to play. It is a long pending due to act with NTR and Dammu has fulfilled it.”

Currently under post production, the film features actors Vimal, Shiva, Santhanam, Anjali, Oviya, Ilavarasu, Panju Subbu, John Vijay, George, Balaji Mohan, Thalapathi and Dinesh.

Veteran actor V.S. Raghavan will be seen in a special appearance.

The film’s music, composed by Vijay Ebenezer, releases April 20. Pa Vijay has penned the lyrics and cinematography is by U.K.Senthilkumar.

The film is slated to release May 2012.

The actress would be seen doing some daredevil stunts in ‘Tezz’ and looking at her courage, co-star Ajay Devgn calls her the hero of the film.

“Sameera is not the heroine but the hero of the film. She has done some amazing action in the film and is nothing less than any hero in the film,” he said in a statement.

Sameera was said to be unhappy over not being offered the item song in the film. However, she said she has no complains and enjoyed doing the stunts.

“I was not offered the item song but I got to be a Lara Croft in the film. It’s an action-oriented character and a strong role. Women in Bollywood never get to perform such stunts. When I was offered the role I was told that I can’t complain that my nails are going to break. I enjoyed doing the stunts,” said the 29-year-old actress.

Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Tezz’ also features Mohanlal, Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, Kangna Ranaut and Zayed Khan in prominent roles. It is slated for April 27 release.

“I am hardly an entrepreneur. I don’t even think of myself as a star. I see myself as someone who is trying to make a difference with his acting,” said Khan addressing the media at the inauguration of Prayag Film City in West Midnapore’s Chandrakona.

“I come from a middle-class background. I like to work 18-20 hours a day and for the last 30 years I have been following this schedule. I have two passions: sports and film making. I have a production house and a cricket franchisee,” said Khan.

Khan, who was present at the curtain raiser of the phase-1 of the sprawling PFC, said the facility will make a difference to the art of film making not only in eastern India but to the entire film fraternity of the country.

“I feel the film city will become a one stop film making centre where you come with a good story and go out with a great film.”

He has also been signed in as the brand ambassador the PFC.

The actor also regaled the gathering with some of his famous dialogues from his films ‘Don’, ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Devdas’ and danced to a popular song from the movie ‘Ra.One’.

RGV, who has directed Manisha in ‘Company’, shares a very good rapport with the actress and finds her extremely talented.

The leading man for the sequel is yet to be finalized. The film will also star J.D Chakravarthy and south actress Madhushalini.

The shooting for the film has already begun and the buzz is that it will be a 3D venture. The film is likely to hit theatres in August this year.

“People are tired now with so many promotions. The film should be good. There are so many films that are promoted on a large scale, but do not live up to the expectations,” the 52-year-old said.

“I feel less is always more. In acting and promotion, I think it has to be done in a correct manner and I am very happy the way it is being done (for ‘Tezz’),” he added.

An action thriller, ‘Tezz’ will see Anil in the role of an anti-terrorist squad police officer.

Talking further about his role, he said: “I’m playing the role of a police officer with a heart. I am an officer who is in the anti-terrorist squad and he is in England working since 20-25 years, However, he wants to go to his birthplace in Punjab and wants to take his kids there.”

“The department gives him a last case, which involves some Asians and Indians and a hijacked train, and asks him to solve it. So, that’s his mission.”

Slated for release April 27, ‘Tezz’ also features Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Sameera Reddy, Boman Irani and Zayed Khan. The film has a cameo by southern star Mohanlal.

Anil was last seen in a cameo in Hollywood actor Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’.

He is also working in ‘Shootout at Wadala’ and ‘Race 2′, in both of which he will be seen as a police officer once again.

Released Thursday, the 3D version of the movie garnered Rs.6.1 crore from 213 screens in opening weekend. It also enjoyed a good opening in the international market by earning $35.5m from 5,579 screens in 84 countries this weekend, a statement said.

“Titanic 3D’s phenomenal success has set a new benchmark not just in 3D technology, but for re-releases in India and international markets. The film has done exceptionally good business not only in the major metros in India, but also in the smaller markets. The figures further reaffirm the passion and excitement which ‘Titanic’, one of the most celebrated films in cinema history, has enjoyed in India over the years,” said Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios India, who is distributing the film here.

‘Titanic’, a love story with the 1912 sinking of the ship as its backdrop, was released in 1997, grossed $1.843-billion worldwide. It made around Rs.500 million (nearly $1 million) in India alone.

The 3D version of the film, released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, is in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and a special tribute to the tragedy that claimed several lives.

Before the release the trade experts were not so sure about the success but right now they are overwhelmed by its box office performance.

The majority of the multiplexes are running to full houses in Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai and this shows the excitement amongst fans towards the film.

“The response has been really amazing during the weekends both in English and Hindi. The gross amount for the weekend collection is Rs 6.lakh and we are showing 12 shows a day. Also we have received 60 percent occupancy for the movies till now, which is unexpected,” Puneet Sahay of Spice Cinemas told us.

Munish Sharma of Satyam Cineplexes said: “The film has received 80 to 90 percent occupancy and it has sustained the same throughout the weekend. The response is overwhelming and we are looking forward to get more business in days to come.”

Piyush Raizada, director, Delite Cinema feels that the film has created wonders in terms of business and is probably one of the biggest 3D release in the country.

“The response so far has been good as lot of people are showing their interest to ‘Titanic’ even after 15 years. The movie so far has been termed as the biggest 3D release in India,” Raizada told IANS.

“I feel cheated by the Government of Maharashtra when we are told, after ten years of setting up Whistling Woods International at a cost of Rs.75 crore, that our joint venture agreement since the year 2000 is not valid,” a hurt Ghai said in a statement.

He said the reason given (for the cancellation) was that because of a government error a board resolution was not passed and the land was undervalued.

“What is our fault? They gave the agreement to us signed by the then MD, cultural secretary and minister of culture to have a partnership in Whistling Woods Ltd with share equity and we invested Rs.20 crore to begin with,” Ghai said.

Proving a major setback to Ghai, the Supreme Court two days ago (Wednesday) dismissed an appeal by Mukta Arts Ltd, owned by Ghai, challenging a Bombay High Court ruling cancelling allotment of 20 acres of prime land in Goregaon east for his film academy, Whistling Woods International.

Observing that the entire transaction ‘lacked transparency’, the apex court said last Wednesday that the application for allotting the land remained in cold storage under three chief ministers and was revived after Vilasrao Deshmukh became the CM and the land was allotted by him.

Last February, the Bombay High Court had quashed allotment of the land for the state-of-the-art world-class film academy, a joint venture between Mukta Arts Ltd and the Maharashtra Films, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation.

Undeterred by the change in the legal status and reduction in size of the land from 20 acres to 5.5 acres, Ghai said he was proud that 500 alumni have passed out since 2006 and are already “very well placed, and 400 are still studying here”.

Meanwhile, top industry personalities have come out in Ghai’s support.

Eminent filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor said Ghai spent 15 years’ time and energy to create ‘a centre of learning for film’.

“Whistling Woods International is not a scam. He should be applauded. It is not possible to build educational institutions at current land prices in any city and the government has to allot land for this. Tisch School of the Arts in Singapore is on land given free by the government and now that country’s directors are making grade worldwide,” Kapoor said.

Another acclaimed film-maker Shyam Benegal said he felt “deeply saddened” by the court verdict in the matter as Ghai had made it his life’s mission to create a world class film school.

“Mumbai could now pride itself on having a film school as good as any in the world, and suddenly this. Strange,” Benegal lamented.

Reacting immediately after the apex court ruling, Ghai had said: “We are opening branches of Whistling Woods International in many states. My production house Mukta Arts is also carrying on the movie-production business full-steam ahead.”

He is likely to undergo a CT-scan at the Seven Hill Hospital, Andheri East, here Tuesday, where he had been operated almost two months ago.

“Last night…I rose from my desk to get to bed, but excruciating pain, stopped me in my tracks and I found it difficult to walk, to stand, to sit, to lie down. Quite horrendous!” he said in a late night blog entry.

While a pain killer managed to save the day, Bachchan attempted to bear with the discomfort for as long as he could.

He admitted that the pain was not there post-operation and he was confounded about the reasons as it recurred two months after the surgery.

“I have no answer. But tomorrow (Tuesday), there should be one as I prepare for a CT-Scan after devouring a large bottle or bottles of that yellow fluid…” he said.

Cause of the abdominal pain and when the CT-scan will be conducted were not immediately known.

This is the actor’s first stage appearance after undergoing abdominal surgery. He looked hale and hearty as he came on stage dressed in velvet coat and trousers, to recite “Janam Yadhi Phir Se Mile”.

The 69-year-old was accompanied by dancers from the Shiamak Davar troupe, who described the essence of the poem through their performance.

His performance was followed by Colonial Cousins, DJ Ravi Drums and Soth African percussionist group 1st Project who mesmerised with peppy numbers.

“I have always tried to choose and sign such films which have a female-oriented character, where the script is based on the female protagonist,” Veena told reporters here.

“Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai” is a comedy, “Zindagi 50-50″ is an issue-based drama and “Mumbai 125 km” is a suspense-thriller.

Veena is now shooting for “Rajani Ki Lag Gai”.

“I don’t have a hero in any one of films I have signed till now except ‘Supermodel’. Every film is the story of a girl and the whole story revolves around her.”

She has teamed up with Ashmit Patel in “Supermodel” – the two became close when they featured in the reality show “Bigg Boss 4″.

“Though it is still way too early to make any declarations, there are strong indications that Ajay would feature in the film’s sequel,” says a source, “This stems from the fact that Surya, who had featured in the original Tamil version SINGHAM, is now starting shoot of the sequel in a few weeks from now. While Hansika Motwani would be one of the leading ladies, there are talks of Anushka Shetty coming on board as well. Meanwhile there are strong feelers that Ajay would be an obvious choice for the Hindi remake since he took the subject to an altogether different level by bringing it on an all-India level.”

However the film won’t go on floors before next year since the Tamil version itself won’t arrive before end of the year.

“Moreover there are other factors to be considered as well,” says a trade veteran, “Reliance had backed Hindi version of SINGHAM while Rohit Shetty had directed it. However there were issues that had cropped between the two during making of the film. It would be a challenge to have all three players (Ajay, Rohit and Reliance) together again.”

While one looks at how the battle shapes up for the film, Rohit Shetty is keeping mum on the sequel being made. While he was unavailable for comment, even sources close to Ajay weren’t too forthcoming. When contacted, his close associate said, “Nothing is happening as yet.”

For the sake of Ajay’s fans, who are gearing up to watch him in other action entertainers like TEZZ and HIMMATWALA, one does hope the sequel happens.

Sources reveal, that Shetty still has five days of shoot left including a song and the 69-year-old actor may be roped in for this special number, which will include all the lead actors of the movie.

“The song features all the principal actors — Ajay Devgn, Abhishek, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai. Someone suggested getting Amitji to also feature in this song, as it’s a very lively and foot tapping number. Someone else in the team also suggested getting the actor to introduce the film to the audience,” a source was quoted saying.

However another source stated, “It is still too early to say anything about any special appearances. Only after things are finalized, can something be said for sure.”

Inspired by 1970 hit comedy Gol Maal, Bol Bachchan stars Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai, in lead roles.

YRF declared to the media that their much hyped action saga DHOOM:3 will be commencing its shoot in May 2012.

DHOOM:3 starts shooting in May 2012 and Aamir Khan joins the schedule in June as per plan.

Apart from Aamir Khan, who plays the anti-hero in the film, and Katrina Kaif, both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue in their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali.

The film is slated for a 2013 release.

“Appointing Shah Rukh Khan will help boost tourism in the same way Gujarat has benefited by appointing Amitabh Bachchan as their brand ambassador,” said Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India.

“But in Bengal, this boost in tourism needs to be backed up by proper infrastructure to tackle the rush of tourists,” he said.

Last month, Shah Rukh accepted a government offer to become the state’s brand ambassador.

Cameron plunged about seven miles (11 kilometers) to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific, where temperatures are barely above freezing and the pressure is a crushing thousand times that at sea level.

Speaking after the mission, the filmmaker-explorer described a barren “completely alien world” on the ocean floor, not unlike the surface of the moon.

It was a “very lunar, very desolate place. Very isolated,” Cameron said.

“I felt like I, in the space of one day, had gone to another planet and come back,” he said, describing the ocean floor as a “completely featureless, alien world.”

The acclaimed film director described the experience of hurtling down the “yawning chasm” of the ocean: “Falling through darkness — that’s something that a robot can’t describe.”

The voyage was the first manned expedition to the trench in more than half a century and Cameron said it was the culmination of more than seven years of planning.

“Most importantly, though, is the significance of pushing the boundaries of where humans can go, what they can see and how they can interpret it,” he said in a statement.

The journey down to the Challenger Deep valley of the Mariana Trench, which lies southwest of Guam, took two hours and 36 minutes, organizers said.

He told reporters in a phone press conference that he was at the bottom of the ocean for about a little more than two and a half hours, and had to cut short the planned stay of six hours because of problems with the ocean craft’s hydraulics system.

Cameron said that being able to make the journey was “the culmination from my perspective of a lifelong dream,” and that he hopes to be able to continue to marry his love of exploring the depths of the sea with his work as a director.

He collected samples for research in marine biology, microbiology, astrobiology, marine geology and geophysics, and captured photographs and 3D moving images.

Cameron is the first person to make a solo dive to the Pacific Ocean trench. The last dive of any kind there was made by a two-man team in a relatively brief expedition back in 1960.

After a faster-than-expected, roughly 70-minute ascent, Cameron’s sub, bobbing in the open ocean, was spotted by helicopter and plucked from the Pacific by a research ship’s crane, organizers said.

Expedition physician Joe MacInnis called Cameron’s descent “the ultimate test of a man and his machine.”

Mission partner the National Geographic said Cameron had reached a depth of 35,756 feet (10,898 meters) at 7:52 am Monday (2152 GMT Sunday) in his specially designed submersible the Deepsea Challenger.

Because of its extreme depth, the Mariana Trench is cloaked in perpetual darkness and the temperature is just a few degrees above freezing.

The water pressure at the bottom is a crushing eight tons per square inch — or about a thousand times the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level.

The images collected by Cameron will be used to make a 3-D feature film, which is expected to be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel.

Cameron’s tools included a sediment sampler, a robotic claw, a “slurp gun” for sucking up small sea creatures for study at the surface, and temperature, salinity, and pressure gauges.

The submersible that Cameron designed — a “vertical torpedo” of sorts — had already successfully completed an unpiloted dive on Friday.

In 1960, a two-man crew aboard the US Navy submersible Trieste — then the only humans to have reached Challenger Deep — spent just 20 minutes on the bottom, but their view was obscured by silt stirred up when they landed.

Cameron, 57, had been running several miles a day, practicing yoga to increase his flexibility for the dive in the sub’s cramped quarters and studying deep-ocean science.

Cameron already has 72 dives under his belt, including 12 to film the blockbuster “Titanic.”

The Mariana Trench, a crescent-shaped scar in the Earth’s crust, measures more than 1,500 miles (2,550 kilometers) long and 43 miles (69 kilometers) wide on average.

This wasn’t the first time the Hannah Montana star was seen wearing the sparkler. On Feb. 6, she tweeted a similar picture of her hand. That time she wrote about how she was “OBSESSING over neons” — and the solitary stone could be seen on her left hand ring finger.
